I will be keeping some in stock in an album HERE.. Custom orders for masks, ear savers, scrub caps can be made by contacting me via email or facebook. I mean we may as well be cute right? I mean there is simply no reason we can’t choose to have some fun with them. Masks are $8 unless you want an $ custom fabric then it will vary based on the fabric chosen. Scrub caps are $16 with no buttons or $17 with plastic buttons, $18 with wooden buttons. Those engraved wooden buttons are $$$ - worth it though..
Masks can be pretty too...
So I showed you last time that I worked up a personal mask for myself and hubby for grocery trips. Unfortunately pickup isn’t 100% an option since they wont let you buy meat or toilet paper that way. But I found this great pattern and tutorial online…
I did alter the thing a bit. I do NOT do the strips on the ends. instead I make the sides a little longer than the pattern and i fold over 1/4 inch twice and top stitch. on the short strait ends of all 4 pieces. Then i sew the nose seams right sides together then if i am adding elastic I sew the top and bottom seams and then turn it (its then open at both shirt sides when turned) and i place the elastic in one inch deep before top stitching the top and bottom seams therefore catching it in that seam. this leaved a pocket for a filter. i also do a simple stitch across the nose bridge that creates a small channel to add a wire piece. I will be making a youtube video soon to show my steps. Now if I am using ties I simply make the bias strip ties (cut strait though not on the bias you don’t want these to stretch) and when i put the two mask pieces together I put them wrong sides together and then encase the top and bottom with the bias strip then tie the ends of the strips. I have been making the masks by scrap busting through small pieces of fabrics I have leftover from dresses I have made the girls. Because who says masks can’t be pretty? These masks were sewn for the therapists where my children attend for Speech, Occupational and Physical therapies. Highly recommended crew there. They have done wonderful things helping my children with their various issues.
And the plague bringeth about a pause...
Today’s plans and that of so many days to come for a bit are pretty isolating for many. I mean I even made my hubby a mask for when we send him as tribute to the grocery store. Most likely he’d be ok without one but have YOU ever dealt with 8 sick children at once? yeah I am not risking that at the moment.
To make myself smile in the process I reached for this lovely Fuck You fabric. I figure how better to really manage some good social distancing in the store. the mask certainly isn’t inviting conversation. And I kinda feel it truly sums up how most people feel about the corona virus. I really wish I was able to help sew masks for the medical staff in need but as well all are aware children are jerks. And these 8 jerks barely let me make the couple I have made for personal use. I did however donate nearly all the elastic I had and a few fabric bolts to wonderful ladies who haven’t recently birthed any stage 5 clinging howler monkeys. I am mostly using ties anyhow so could afford to spare the hard to find elastic I had in my garage hoard. My hubby doesn’t care for the ear pulling and the ties fit his face better. But he also isn’t in the line of duty needing to change a mask quickly between patients. He just needs to make it through a Kroger store without anyone sneezing their cooties all up in his face.
Unless we are put on a full lock down I will still be available for outdoor sessions. Evenings and Weekends only as the hubby is still working. And there is legit no way he can watch 8 kids while working. But you all know I use the nice long 135mm lens as it is so immma be about 30 foot from you at most times… 8-10 foot for closeups lol… I can social distance the fuck out of a session no problem. So if you still want to get outside and get a few pics and your at an age/ability to not need me up in your face feather tickling you to get you to perform than book away. For those needing sessions later this year or wanting to gift a session I will still be having my birthday gift card sale this year.. Stay tuned for timing.
